Ballawhetstone Stables - Riders Code of Conduct

Before participating in any equestrian activities at Ballawhetstone Stables Ltd, all riders must read and agree to the following code of conduct.  This agreement is designed to promote safety, trust, and responsibility for all involved.

  • I understand that riding at any standard has inherent risk and that all horses unpredictably on occasions.

  • I may fall off and could be injured.  I except that risk.

  • I understand that instructions are given for my safety and agree to follow instructions given to me by staff and instructors at the riding school.

  • I understand that wearing an appropriate standard riding helmet and body protector may reduce the severity of an injury should an accident happen. I understand it is my choice whether or not I wear a body protector.

  • I agree that I will always wear a riding helmet whilst riding, and should wear a riding helmet whilst leading and grooming horses.

  • I agree that I have to wear suitable footwear whilst riding (footwear should have a smooth sole and defined heel.  Shoes with buckles, platforms, ribbed soles, or high heels will not be permitted).

  • I understand rider safety and hygiene is essential.  After the 4-6 week induction period, I should purchase my own correctly fitted riding helmet and boots.

  • I agree that it advisable to wear glove while riding and leading horses.

  • I understand that jewellery should not be worn when riding or handling horses.

  • I understand that the riding school will make decisions based on information I give them and agree to always be honest and volunteer information about:

    • My abilities and riding experience.​

    • Any previous riding accidents.

    • Any medical condition(s) which may affect my ability to ride.​

  • I understand that children are at particular risk around horses and I agree that I will keep any children that I am responsible for under close supervision when they are not being instructed by the riding school. 

  • I understand that the riding school may refuse my request to ride for safety and operational reasons.

  • I understand that competing carries enhanced risk over and above general riding and agree that if I choose to participate in any competition or event, it is up to me to ensure that I have the experience and ability to compete.  If I am in any doubt, I will use my judgement and not enter.

  • I understand that when visiting the stables for lessons or as a chaperone to be dressed appropriately at all times.
